project brief & challenges—
The Rockwell Group and Architectural lighting design firm Focus collaborated with SenovvA and Wet Design on a unique design for the circular entry way at the new guitar shaped Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood Florida. The “Oculus” design included a central water feature with projection, six illuminated columns and ceiling lighting that were choreographed to specific music pieces that were all in-sync with a water, video projection and lighting show.
Focus was looking for an LED video product solution using individually controllable LED lighting to be installed behind a thick frosted glass diffuser on both sides of the six columns. The columns had a curved surface at 20-foot high by 4-foot wide, an 60° angle at the top. Focus was looking for a solution that would integrate well with the irregular mounting brackets of the glass diffuser. In addition, specific technical details were needed rapidly as construction was well under way.
approach—
The standard off-the-shelf solutions was not sufficient and 5TEN assisted with a customizable solution that would work within the design parameters, including odd size curve-able panel configurations, and high brightness required to protrude through the thick glass brick diffuser.
5TEN supported Focus with a demo-set of a high brightness, quad LED pixel spaced at 55mm distance, which proved to offer enough brightness at 3000nits and was the right solution with ETL Certification to meet all US safety standards.
Solution—
We offered drawings illustrating the customized electrical and mechanical solutions, plus a comprehensive system layout communicating all power and control details. We procured, shipped and oversaw the installation under the tight timelines of the project.
We collaborated with the onsite electrical contractor, the media-server and content teams to ensure the columns control system was processing all the content details accurately.
